Battery Development Engineer

Position Summary

The employee will work on battery material related research and development projects aimed at implementing new battery products to extend FlexEl’s product line or improving existing product lines to maintain FlexEl’s technological leadership.

The employee will develop concepts and conduct experiments to improve battery materials and battery performance. The employee will be expected to develop and characterize the chemical and electrochemical properties of materials and battery electrodes and to identify ways to optimize these properties. The employee will be expected to identify interactions between components in complex battery systems, to understand factors that limit electrochemical performance and to make recommendations to optimize the performance of battery systems.

The employee will be expected to follow developments in the field of battery sciences, electrochemistry and chemistry and to identify those developments that may be applied to improve battery materials and electrochemical systems.

The employee will work in a team environment with chemists/electrochemists, material scientists and mechanical engineers.

A M.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with emphasize on electrochemistry is required. Exceptional BS candidates with a minimum of five years relevant work experience will also be considered.

The employee will identify and develop good working relationships with material suppliers, toll manufactures, consultants and universities.

Written and oral communication of results to peers and management are required expectations for this position.

Required Skills and Experience

A M.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with emphasize on electrochemistry is required.  Minimum of 2 – 5 years relevant work experience.

Exceptional B.S. candidates with a minimum of five years relevant work experience will also be considered.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

Technical Knowledge: Material Sciences & Engineering; Electrochemistry

Technical: Battery or Portable Power Systems (Highly desirable but not essential)

Design of Experiments (JMP or equivalent) and Statistics

The employee may supervise one or more non-exempt laboratory assistants.
